Thanksgiving Day is about celebrating all of life's joys and accomplishments that you are grateful for with family & friends. It is also a time to make fond memories and continue family traditions, such as watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV with kids or enjoying that much needed tryptophan nap on the couch.
Unfortunately, there are some that need to work this holiday- our law enforcement, firefighters, hospital workers, military overseas. We all hope that they get some extra special treatment for being away from their families for the holiday.
But there are some services that are not needed on Thanksgiving Day.
We don't need that leather bag, Frozen doll, or XBox while we are eating turkey and enjoying time with family & friends. I'm all for capitalism, but there are some things that should still be held in higher regard and not just tossed aside. So I implore you this holiday season to think twice about patronizing stores that are opening on Thanksgiving Day and preventing their employees from celebrating this holiday with their family & friends. Here is a list of the biggest retailers opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day: KMart, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Toys R Us ,Sears, Best Buy, Macy's, Kohls.
There are many stores that are refusing to take part in this crazy new trend of having Black Friday sales begin earlier and trickle over to Thanksgiving Day. Some of the big stores respecting the holiday are Dillard's, Nordstrom, GameStop, DSW, Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Talbots, Barnes & Noble, Home Goods, and Bed, Bath & Beyond. Good for them for putting the lives and well-being of their employees before their bottom line.
Please remember to keep this holiday about family, friends, and giving thanks for our blessings, and not commercialize it into waiting on line at stores to save a few dollars on items that are not necessities.
