Memorial Day: Only The Dead Have Seen The End Of War


(Editor's Note - On this Memorial Day, we re-post this message from First Sergeant Russell Gallo, which he offered three years ago today.)

This weekend we give thanks to those Americans that have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live free.  

To my brothers and sisters at arms who know war all too well, I leave you with this excerpt from President Theodore Roosevelt's "Man in the Arena" speech.

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

    Great writing Russ, stay positive please.

    Hello everyone.

    This morning I went to the Veterans Hospital.

    I spoke to a therapist, I showed her some of my writings and she remarked they are all positive, but I ramble on, which will tend to make people not take me serious and she said she would help me with this and my writing should improve in the future.

    When I speak negative a lot of times it is my personal pain understand this. When I talk negative about the Democrats, the President, etc, please do not take it as if I hate these people. I do have a genuine love for everyone.

    Politics is not my cup of tea if I saw the President I would salute him and if he needed help I would help him as I would do every one of you.

    My days of writing here and anywhere are now ended for I need to understand the structure of the English word and how to be effected with this, before I can write again, I tried!

    I will just comment here only the following. Think positive.
