Attorney Michael Avenatti, who has represented such esteemed clientele as porn star Stormy Daniels and avid rape-party attendee Julie Swetnick, did not start off his week on his best foot.
Monday, the "Creepy Porn Lawyer" as coined by Tucker Carlson was slapped with a $4.85 million dollar judgment in favor of his former associate attorney, Jason Frank. According to Fox News:
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dennis Landin issued the ruling after turning down a request from Avenatti to have the matter moved to federal court, which the opposing side called a delay tactic.
That would be enough to convince anyone that it didn't pay to get out of bed. But the prospective 2020 Presidential candidate (no, really!) was then personally ordered to pay $213,253 in back rent for an 8,300-plus square foot office in Newport Beach.
Of course, Avenatti played it off as if nothing happened:
“Garbage. Old news. I have no responsibility for anything relating to the lease and haven’t for some time,” he said. Avenatti did not answer questions about who is currently responsible or whose name is on the lease.Last week wasn't so hot for Avenatti, either. Last Monday, a federal judge dismissed the defamation lawsuit he brought against President Donald Trump on behalf of Stormy Daniels, which held that the President's tweet attacking the porn star’s credibility was free speech protected by the Constitution.
Still, no-selling legal body blows seems to be Avenatti's modus operandi:
“Daniels’ other claims against Trump and Cohen proceed unaffected,” Avenatti wrote in a Tweet, referring to the president’s former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen. “We will appeal the dismissal of the defamation cause of action and are confident in a reversal.”
