STUPIDEST. POST. EVER. AXS Blogger Demands Cultural Diversity... of Mascots?!?

Have you ever come across something so stupid - I mean, so monumentally stupid - that you must stop what you're doing to point out to the entire world the numerous ways of how profoundly stupid it is?

Yeah, that's me right now.

CLICK HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE AS ANGRY AT THE STUPID AS I AM!

Eric Holden, a contributor to AXS.com, should have kept this little contribution to himself.  In what could only be described as the most absurd example of political correctness run amok, Holden wrote that the New York Mets must strike a blow for social justice and create "culturally diverse mascots"

Yes, I just wrote that phrase.

But the stupidity that is burning Mr. Met so strongly isn't JUST that.  It is actually stupidity heaped upon stupidity in that Holden seemingly knows nothing about the Mets, either.

Let's break it down, shall we?  Here is a direct quote from Mr. Holden:

"Mrs. Met helped turn New York into a Mets town, even when the team was mired in a years-long slump."

I don't even know where to begin with that one.  Seriously.  I got nothing. Having been affiliated with my friend Mark Healey and Gotham Baseball magazine for the past ten years, I have had the honor of talking with many baseball historians and authors.  Never have I ever heard of the significant influence that Mrs. Met had on the team.

Gil Hodges?  Yes.  Tom Seaver?  Sure.  Daryl Strawberry & Doc Gooden?  Absolutely.

Mrs. Met?  Not so much.  But you gotta admit - she's one hot... um.... female baseball.

But let's put a pin in that, shall we?  The stupid is growing.

"The Mets play just miles away from New York City"

Actually, the Mets play IN New York City.  The Mets call Queens home.  Queens is one of the five boroughs that comprise New York City.  Unless of course, you don't think that the outer boroughs are New York City.  In that case, I guess the Yankees don't play in New York City, either.

But - AGAIN - the stupid will not relent.

[T]he team could certainly diversify their mascot lineup by adding African-American, Asian, third-gender or homosexual companions into the mix. Mr. Met needs friends, right?

WRONG. He's already got friends.  In addition to the hundreds of thousands - nay, millions! - of Mets fans, Mr. Met rolls deep with a diverse crew.

Ever heard of the Mets Pepsi Party Patrol?  Probably not.  I'll explain.    They are part of the in-between inning family entertainment that has become a staple of most MLB and MiLB games.  They go by different names at different venues, but they all have the same job - to entertain, to pump up the crowd and to show the fans a good time, while promoting sponsored content.

Oh, and here is what they look like.

I could go on, but you get the point.  This is without a doubt the biggest piece of PC crap I have ever read.  And being in politics as long as I have been, that is saying a lot.
